AIS athletes competing in the Australian road walking championships

Australian Institute of Sport athlete Jared Tallent claims gold in the 2011 Australian 20km Walks Championships.

Australian Institute of Sport athletes Jared Tallent, Luke Adams and Adam Rutter will be lining up for the men’s 50-kilometre event of the Australian road walking championships, taking place in Fawkner Park, Melbourne, on Sunday 22 November 2009.

The championships will serve as a selection trial to qualify for the 2010 IAAF World Race Walking Cup, and will be the first major domestic competition for Rutter and Tallent since the IAAF World Championships in Athletics held in Germany in August.

AIS team-mate Claire Tallent will be competing in the non-championship 20-kilometre race walk, while Sean Fitzsimons, who will join the AIS Track and Field program in early 2010, will be taking part in the 10-kilometre race walk.

Australian 50km Road Walking Championships

  • 7.00am — 50-kilometre walk
  • 8.00am — 20-kilometre walk (non-championship): men and women
  • 8.30am — 10-kilometre walk (non-championship): junior men and women
