The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) today renewed its Memorandum of Understanding with France’s national elite sports training institute, the Institut National des Sports et de l'Education Physique (INSEP).

AIS director, Peter Fricker and the Director of INSEP Thierry Maudet renewed the MOU which is in its sixth year between the two agencies.

The signing occurred during a visit to the AIS by the French delegation.

AIS Director Peter Fricker welcomed the renewal of MOU and looked forward to working with INSEP and building on this successful relationship.

‘Both agencies stand to benefit from some of the world’s best coaching and sports science knowledge and expertise in elite athlete development.

‘The AIS will continue to share its knowledge and expertise with other countries where it identifies a mutual benefit and return for Australian sport.'

The MOU aims to facilitate cooperation and collaboration between the two national sports agencies in a number of key areas including:

  • exchange of expertise on high level sport performance;
  • exchanges of athletes and trainers between relevant French and Australian sports federations;
  • use of sports installations;
  • sports medicine;
  • measures to strengthen the fight against doping in sport;
  • training and perfecting of high level sports trainers;
  • sports information; and
  • provision of assistance in the event of a critical incident occurring in either national territory and involving either AIS or INSEP athletes.
