AIS netballers arrive in South Africa
The AIS Netball Team has arrived in Johannesburg for their 13-day tour of South Africa.
The tour includes three games against the 21/U South African team as well as three other matches against EC Comets Provincial Team, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Netball Team and the Gauteng Thunderbirds.
The 12 touring athletes are led by AIS Head Coach and 21/U Australian Coach Simone McKinnis as well as four other support staff.
The trip is part of the AIS netball program that goes on an international tour annually.
This aspect of the program exposes players to the rigours of travel, cultural diversity and a unique opportunity to play against world class opposition and different international styles of netball.
AIS netball scholarships are offered annually and give players the experience necessary to compete with distinction both nationally and internationally.
Training is based on skills and tactics employed by the Australian Netball Diamonds to compete successfully against their major international competitors.
Domestically, the AIS players compete in the New Idea Australian Netball League (ANL). Many AIS athletes also represent their home states at the National Netball Championships.
