AIS swimmers have recorded outstanding results at recent international swim meets, as preparation for the upcoming world championships continue.

Brenton Rickard had an impressive win in the 200-metre breaststroke at the Santa Clara International Invitational meet. He recorded a time of 2:10.37, breaking Brendan Hansen’s meet record of 2:10.62.

‘I’m thrilled with the time, usually in season I’m going 2:11 or 2:12 so to record a time of 2:10 is very encouraging at this time of the year,’ Rickard said.

Ashley Delaney (AIS) had an under two-minute finish in the 200-metre backstroke, winning him second place behind Olympic and world record holder Ryan Lochte.

Lochte touched in at 1:56.83 and Delaney 1:58.60, making them the only men in the nine swimmer field to go under two minutes.

The 400-metre men’s freestyle final had a close finish with US superstar Michael Phelps (3:48.05) beating Canada’s Ryan Cochrane and the Institute’s Robert Hurley in third place (3:48.49).

Felicity Galvez (AIS) finished second behind fellow Australian team-mate Libby Trickett in the 100-metre butterfly at the Mare Nostrum series in Canet, France.
