Australian Institute of Sport swimmers lend support to Camp Quality
Camp Quality children and their families had the experience of a lifetime last week when they travelled to the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) to watch the 2009 Speedo AIS International meet.
Fifteen children and their families were delighted to have the opportunity to watch a host of top-class Australian swimmers, including Eamon Sullivan and Leisel Jones, race in Canberra.
Thanks to Rosemary Goode, the children were able to meet the swimmers, snap a few photos, grab an autograph or two, and even present prizes to the winning swimmers.
The night was a huge success, with both children and their parents thoroughly enjoying themselves.
‘[We] wanted to thank … the team at the AIS for the wonderful evening that the Camp Quality children had at the AIS swim meet on Friday night,’ Caroline McIntyre from Camp Quality wrote.
‘I have had so much feedback from the families about how much they enjoyed the evening, and how eager the children (and parents!) were to meet the swimmers.
‘[A] highlight was when the children presented the prizes at the end of the races, they were so excited about doing that. Can you please thank Rosemary, who arranged that for us, it was a real thrill for the children.
‘I think that the evening surpassed all expectations, we were thrilled at how many of the swimmers came over and spent time with us. They were very gracious with the photos, autograph signing etc. and with their time.’
Camp Quality provides support to children living with cancer and their families. It is one of the Australian Sports Commission’s charities of choice and the Commission looks forward to providing similar opportunities again in the future.
