The Australian Kookaburras men’s hockey team has scored a 1–0 victory against Malaysia in the final of the 3 Nations Series, at the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham, Canberra on Sunday 2 August.

The Australian Kookaburras had a great start with four penalty corners in the first 15 minutes and a shot on goal from Mark Knowles just missing the post. They went on to score their first and only goal of the match in the 24th minute, through a penalty corner converted by Chris Ciriello. In the second half of the match Australia received two penalty corners and had ten shots on goal, but Malaysia’s strong defence prevented the Kookaburras from increasing their lead.

Kookaburras coach Ric Charlesworth congratulated the team on the victory but expressed concern over their penalty conversion rate. The Kookaburras’s next match will be against New Zealand and Samoa in the Oceania Cup, held from 24 to 30 August in Invercargill, New Zealand, which serves as a qualifier for the 2010 World Cup.
