Boxing Australia announces team for the world championships
Boxing Australia has announced the final team to compete at the upcoming World Elite Men’s Boxing Championships. The team is:

- 60kg Kane Gruer (Cassells)
- 64kg Qamil Balla
- 69kg Mark Basile
- 75kg Damien Hooper
- 81kg Steve Lovett
- 91kg Mostyn Niemann

The Australian team (all Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holders) is currently training at the Institute in Canberra and will depart for Italy on 12 August. Plans are under way for the team to train with an Italian squad, or travel to the Czech Republic to train with the Czech and Slovakian national teams.
On 29 August the team will travel to AIBA World Boxing Championships, taking place in Milan, Italy from 1 to 12 September 2009. Medial checks, weigh-in and the draw will occur on 31 August, before the start of the world championships.
