Four AIS boxers successful at world championships trials

The Boxing World Championship Selection Trials have concluded with four AIS boxers winning their respective weight divisions.

Boxers who won their weight categories will now be considered for selection in the Australian Team for the World Championships, which will take place in Milan, Italy 29 Aug-13 Sept. 

The BAI Selection Committee will now recommend what weight categories will make up the Australian Team.

The AIS had 7 athletes competing (4 senior athletes, 3 development athletes) and 4 won their division, so are now eligible for selection.

Results are as follows:

Finals
54kg – Luke Boyd (AIS) defeated Jeremy Udovic 13:3
75kg – Damien Hooper (AIS/NTID) defeated Luke Bunder 10:8 (after being down 0:4 at the end of Round 1)
81kg – Steve Lovett (AIS) defeated Selim Sumertas  by Referee Stopped Contest Round 2
91kg – Mostyn Niemann (AIS) defeated Steve Pitt by Referee Stopped Contest Round 2

Semi-Finals
64kg – David Biddle (AIS) lost to Jeff Horne 7:7 (David lost on countback)
75kg – Damien Hooper (AIS/NTID) defeated Alex Byrne by Referee Stopped Contest Round 3
81kg – Steve Lovett (AIS) defeated Sam Blyth (AIS/NTID) 12:6
91+kg – Gareth Bamin (AIS/NTID) lost to Trent Rawlings 10:6 (Trent won the final)

Quarter Finals
75kg – Damien Hooper (AIS/NTID) defeated Korobo Etto 11:5
81kg – Sam Blyth (AIS/NTID) defeated Anthony Kolizos by the Doctor in Round 3
81kg – Steve Lovett (AIS) defeated Byron McSweeney by Referee Stopped Contest Round 2
