AIS and Australian Matildas Head Coach, Tom Sermanni, has selected a 26-player squad to take part in a training camp on the Gold Coast from 28 May to 1 June 2009.

Sermanni has been using this series of training camps to work with a large pool of players as part of the preparation process for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2010.

“Our first camp on the Gold Coast earlier this month was very successful and the facilities there are top notch,” said Sermanni.

“With a number of players currently on tour with the Westfield Young Matildas in Europe at the moment, we have the opportunity to bring in some more players from our talent pool to work with.

“This is an important camp for many of the seniors players who are on the fringes of selection to see how they rate amongst their peers and it will be up to them to step up to the challenge and make a case for a place in the final squad later in the year,” concluded Sermanni.

The AFC Women’s Asian Cup in 2010 also serves as a qualifying competition for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany in 2011. Australia is currently ranked 14 in the FIFA World Rankings and fourth within the AFC.
