Rickard wins Swimming Australia's golden moment of the year award

Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athlete Brenton Rickard has won the 2009 Speedo Golden Moment of the Year award, announced at the Swimming Australia awards in Canberra on 7 October.

Rickard was recognised for his magnificent victory in setting a new world record time of 58.58 seconds and winning gold in the men’s 100-metre breaststroke event at the 2009 FINA World Swimming Championships in Rome, on Sunday 26 October.

In receiving the award, Rickard paid tribute to the support of his AIS coach and mentor Vince Raleigh.

Ex-AIS swimmers Jodie Henry and Tarnee White were also recognised for their services to the Australian swimming team.
