Four talented Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athletes have been selected to join the AIS Jayco national track cycling team from 21 October.

The new members of the Australian Jayco 2010–11 team are:

  • Daniel Ellis (AIS, Australian Capital Territory) — Olympian and current Oceania champion in individual and team sprint events
  • Kaarle McCulloch (AIS, New South Wales) — current world and Oceania champion in team sprint, and Oceania champion in 500-metre time trial
  • Jason Niblett (AIS, Victoria) — current Oceania champion in team sprint
  • Shane Perkins (Victoria) — Australian champion in keirin, sprint, time trial events, and Oceania champion in the keirin
  • Scott Sunderland (AIS, Western Australia) — current Oceania champion in time trial and team sprint events.

AIS Jayco cyclists are currently gearing up to compete in the first round of the four-round 2009–10 UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics, in Manchester from 30 October to 1 November 2009. The series serves as a qualifying event for the 2010 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, taking place in Ballerup, Denmark from 24 to 28 March.

Cycling Australia national sprint coach Gary West says team AIS Jayco provides a great opportunity for talented track cyclists to gain valuable experience at the international level.

‘This team allows sprint track cyclists in the existing program to further hone their skill at the international level and provides an opportunity to develop future stars,’ West said.
