This weekend’s NRL grand final between the Melbourne Storm and Parramatta will have special significance for the AIS/ARL program.

Three former AIS scholarship holders: Joel Reddy and Daniel Mortimer (Parramatta), along with Scott Anderson (Storm) will play in rugby league’s biggest game of the season.

Reddy has been quick to acknowledge the role that the AIS/ARL program has played in his football development.

‘My time as an AIS scholarship holder was vitally important in getting me to where I am today,’ Reddy said.

‘The coaching staff and professionalism of the program is first class, giving every young player every opportunity to fulfil their potential.’

‘You only have to look amongst the current NRL first grade ranks to see the number of players who are now playing in the world’s best rugby league competition.’

‘Look at a player like Israel Falou, he came out of the Institute program and played for Australia the next year.’

AIS head coach Brian Johnson said he was pleased with the program’s success in producing players that were now playing at the top level.

‘I think the large number of former scholarship holders playing in the NRL competition is an indication that the program is obviously working,’ Johnson said.

‘We provide players with a firsthand insight into the requirements of an NRL player so they are ready when they get to that level.’

‘I wish Joel, Daniel and Scott all the best in this week’s grand final. They’ve all enjoyed outstanding seasons.’

Sunday’s grand final, to be played at the ANZ Stadium, kicks off at 5pm.
