Tippett named in AIS Women's Basketball program
Promising young Queensland basketballer Gretel Tippett is the latest player to be named in the 2010 Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) Women’s Basketball program.
Tippett, who is the younger sister of Adelaide Crows forward Kurt and Brisbane Lions’ Joel, will commence her scholarship at the AIS in Canberra on4 December 2009.
AIS women’s basketball head coach Phil Brown said Tippett was an exciting young player.
‘Gretel is an explosive driver and rebounder with outstanding athleticism and we will be working on further developing her perimeter skills in terms of her shooting range, mid-range game and perimeter defensive skills,’ Brown said ‘She is an exciting young athlete who has already represented Australia at the junior level with the Gems [the under-19 national team] including the world junior championships in Thailand in July this year.’
‘Gretel will complement our front line of Tayla Roberts, Alex Bunton, Nadeen Payne and Carly Mijovic and will add further versatility to our Team.’
Canberra’s Alex Bunton is another young player Brown is looking forward to working with.
‘Alex brings size and physical strength to the team at 190cm and will be a strong contributor and inside presence in the post,’ Brown said. ‘She can rebound and has the capability to step out and make the perimeter shot also.’
