Under-23 Track Endurance/Road Cycling named AIS Program of the Year

The Under-23 Track Endurance/Road Cycling program has has been announced as AIS Program of the Year at the AIS Awards held in Canberra on Thursday, 12 November.

The Under-23 Track Endurance/Road Cycling program, based in Adelaide, enjoyed excellent domestic and international seasons in 2009.

Australia emerged as the number one ranked track cycling nation following the 2009 UCI Track Cycling World Championships held in Poland.

AIS athletes gave medal-winning performances at both the Australian and Oceania Track Championships and at the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics.

They also won a gold and silver medal at the 2009 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.  

AIS Director Professor Peter Fricker paid tribute to the program and AIS head coach Ian McKenzie.

‘The tremendous results in cycling reflect the professionalism of this program,’ Professor Fricker said.

‘This applies across the program from athletes and coaching staff to the dedicated administrative staff and service providers.’

‘Ian has been the backbone for much of the program’s success and has been integral to the development of Australia’s finest cyclists.’

‘It’s been a great year for the Under-23 Track Endurance/Road Cycling program and all involved should be very proud.’
