Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder Mary-Anne Monckton has won a silver medal in the all-around competition at the 2010 Australian Women’s Gymnastics Championships held in Perth.

Beijing Olympian Georgia Bonora took gold with a score of 55.050, while Mockton’s tally of 52.675 saw her finish second.

Monckton 15, recently returned from a year on the sidelines after having two small bones removed from her ankles.

A talented junior, the future is looking bright for Monckton.

“She’s finally healthy enough to have an uninterrupted training period to produce these results,” Australian Coach Peggy Liddick said.

“She was one of our top juniors but she’s been off the planet for the last two years trying to deal with these ankles.”

“We always knew she was coming, it was just a matter of getting her back. She’s still underdone but she’s got a lot more skills to put in her program.”
