AIS swimmers amongst medals at 2010 Pan Pacific Championships

Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) swimmers have finished amongst the medals at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, USA.

Ash Delaney (AIS) won silver in the 50m men’s backstroke (24.98), bronze in the 100m men’s backstroke (53.67) and bronze in the 4x100m Men’s Medley Relay.

Alicia Coutts (AIS) won silver in the 4x100m Women’s Medley Relay and bronze in the 100m women’s butterfly (57.99).

One of Australia’s brightest young swimmers Belinda Hocking (AIS) took bronze in the 200m women’s backstroke (2:08.60).

Felicity Galvez won silver in the 400m women's freestyle relay, while Cam Prosser also won silver in the 400m men's freestyle relay.

The United States maintained its status as the world’s No.1 swimming nation winning 26 medals at the Pan Pacific Games, Australia finished with six gold medals.

Australian swim coach Leigh Nugent has warned against those expecting Australia to dominate at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

'It's not going to be a whitewash there with the British, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa all representing tough opposition,' Nugent said.
