Ashley Delaney - Swimming
The quietly confident and well-grounded Ashley Delaney is no stranger to success.
Ashley dived into international swimming fame at the 2006 Oceania Swimming Championships where he set championship records in the 50-metre, 100-metre and 200-metre backstroke and set the foundations to become one of Australia’s greatest backstroke swimmers.
At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Ashley took home silver in the 4 x 100-metre medley relay and a fifth place finish in the 100-metre backstroke.
Hungry for gold, Ashley made a promise to become the very best he could be and vowed to attend every training session possible. That promise paid off as he became the golden boy at the 2009 Telstra Trials, winning all three of his backstroke events and setting national records in both the 50-metre and 200-metre backstroke.
The burning desire to be the best continues to drive this super fish from Sale in Victoria and Ashley is going from strength to strength. At the 2010 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships Ashley took the silver medal in the 50-metre backstroke and the bronze in the 100-metre backstroke.
Ashley Delaney is focussed on his goal and will be hunting gold for Australia at this year’s Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
