The Australian men’s hockey team has won the 2010 Champions Trophy defeating England 4 to 0 in Monchengladbach, Germany.

The win is Australia’s 11th Champions Trophy victory and the team’s third consecutive title, repeating their feat from 1983–85. It completes a major double title for the Kookaburras in 2010, after winning the  World Cup in March.

Australia dominated the final with striker Luke Doerner scoring the first goal in just the 6th minute. Striker Des Abbott scored another goal a minute later, to make it 2–0. The next goal was scored by Jason Wilson in the 13th minute. In a fitting end to the final, veteran Jamie Dwyer scored Australia’s last goal in the 50th minute to wrap up a convincing victory.

18 Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athletes featured in the  Kookaburras squad, which included: Jamie Dwyer, Simon Orchard, Glenn Turner, Christopher Ciriello, Jason Wilson, Mark Paterson, Russell Ford, Edward Ockenden, Luke Doerner, Joel Carroll, Timothy Deavin, Matthew Swann, Nathan Burgers, George Bazeley, Kieran Govers, Graeme Begbie, Fergus Kavanagh and Des Abbott.
