The results are in: Berlei’s soon-to-be-released ‘Ultimate Performance’ sports bra has delivered the greatest average bounce reduction of all bras according to recent testing at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS).

Test results released by the AIS Biomechanics Department on 23 June show that Berlei’s new ‘Ultimate Performance’ sports bra had an average bounce reduction of 60 per cent.

AIS Biomechanists are using motion analysis systems to measure and analyse the bounce reduction of Berlei Sports Bras. Bounce reduction compares the bounce of women wearing Berlei sports bras to the same activity when the woman is wearing no bra at all.

General Manager of Berlei, Sally Berkeley said its 10-year partnership with the AIS had contributed significantly to innovation in bra design and technology and to improving performance and reducing bounce.

‘With the help of the AIS biomechanics team, and with feedback from AIS athletes, we have been able to fine tune the design of the Berlei sports bra range to offer greater support whilst maintaining comfort,’ Ms Berkeley said.

Head of AIS Biomechanics and Performance Analysis Dr Nick Brown said since the Institute began testing Berlei Sports Bras there had been continual improvements in sports bra design and in terms of support, comfort, fit and most importantly bounce reduction.

‘A good quality, comfortable and supportive bra is important to all females participating in sport,’ Dr Brown said.

‘It is difficult to know how effectively a bra will reduce breast bounce, but Berlei’s commitment to testing greatly improves the likelihood of producing and developing very effective bras.’

The partnership with Berlei provides AIS athletes with leading edge sports bra designs before they are available to the broader market, providing female athletes with a winning edge.

AIS rising star basketball player, Gretel Tippet, said that a supportive sports bra was just as an important piece of equipment to enhance her performance as her basketball shoes.

‘As I play a high impact sport that involves a lot of jumping and running for sustained periods, anything that will give me that extra bit of support is certainly an advantage over the competition,’ Tippet said.
