Cameron Meyer - Cycling
Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) cyclist Cameron Meyer will be looking to cap off an outstanding year when he lines up for Australia at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Cameron has already tasted success on the international cycling stage, winning three gold medals at the world track championships (team pursuit, points race and madison) earlier this year in Denmark.
The 22 year old heads into competition in Delhi determined to win medals for Australia.
‘The Commonwealth Games are really important in Australia, second to the Olympics,’ Cameron said. ‘I’m competing on the track, and possibly road too. Whatever events I line up in you can bet I’ll be giving it 100 per cent in my pursuit of gold.’
‘I’ve enjoyed a fabulous year and winning gold at a Commonwealth Games would just be fantastic.’
Cameron’s long-range goal remains the London 2012 Olympic Games but his plans have changed somewhat in terms of what events he will look to compete in.
‘The Olympics were my priority but they’ve dropped the madison and points race, which is two thirds of my program,’ Cameron said. ‘I’ve had to re-assess, and although I’ll continue on the track and try to represent Australia and win medals, the road is now my main focus.’
Cameron signed with the professional Garmin Transitions team last year along with his brother Travis. The pair have won 12 world track titles between them (Travis has five junior titles, while Cameron has three junior and four senior).
