Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) cyclists Kaarle McCulloch and Jack Bobridge have taken out seven national titles between them at the 2010 Australian Track Cycling Championships, held 2–7 February at the Adelaide Super-Drome.

Kaarle McCulloch had her first win with NSW cyclist Madison Law on 2 February in the women’s team sprint — the pair won the race in 35.68 seconds. McCulloch went on to win the individual sprint in 11.85 seconds on 4 February, and then the keirin on 5 February.

McCulloch collected her fourth gold on the final day of competition in the time trial. Her final time of 34.28 seconds was a personal best and a new record for Australia: three tenths of a second faster than the time recorded by fellow AIS cyclist Anna Meares at the 2007 championships.

While Kaarle McCulloch was collecting gold medals in the women’s events at the Australian Track Cycling Championships, AIS cyclist Jack Bobridge was blitzing the men’s events. First, he won the individual pursuit in 4 minutes, 16.31 seconds on 2 February. Then, on 4 February, he joined Dale Parker, James Glasspool and fellow AIS athlete Rohan Dennis in the SA team that won the team pursuit (the Southcott Cup).

The SA team’s time of 4 minutes, 5.69 seconds beat the previous Australian Championship record set in 2009 by the WA team of Cameron and Travis Meyer, Luke Durbridge and Michael Freilberg.

Bobridge continued his great form right to the end of the nationals. On the final day of competition he cruised to victory on 41 in the points race, defeating AIS cyclist Luke Durbridge by six points. On the same day he also won the silver medal in the ominum after finishing in 4 minutes, 32.25 seconds, less than a second behind the AIS’s Michael Hepburn.

Other AIS cyclists, including Ashlee Ankudinoff, Rohan Dennis, Daniel Ellis, Belinda Goss, Sarah Kent and Scott Sunderland, performed strongly at the nationals.
