Felicity Galvez - Swimming

01 Oct 2010

Felicity GalvezStarting out from humble beginnings, this pint-sized powerhouse from Melbourne took swimming on ‘just to learn to swim’. Her parents introduced her to the sport unaware that they’d become one of the biggest influences on her career.

At age 11, after eight and half years in Spain, Felicity came back to Australia where her passion for swimming came alive. Now 25, the Canberra-based swimmer says that swimming has been a great journey and has loved every moment. The hours of dedication Felicity gives to her sport and her desire to be the best has certainly paid off.

In 2008, Felicity broke the 50m short course record and 100m butterfly world record. The competitive nature of swimming saw her 100m record fall in as little as month. The result: she was more determined than ever to get her record back. At the 2009 FINA World Cup series event in Stockholm she reclaimed her title and broke her previous short course record for the 100m butterfly by 0.43 seconds.

At times referred to the new Madame Butterfly of swimming, Felicity will head to the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games in peak physical condition. She will be determined to blow her opposition right out of the water and will certainly be one to watch.
