Eight former Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) netballers have been named in the national team to compete at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Rebecca Bulley, Catherine Cox, Susan Fuhrmann, Laura Geitz, Kimberley Green, Lauren Nourse, Susan Pratley and Natalie Von Bertouch have all been selected in the Australian team.

Following an intense selection process, Australian captain Sharelle McMahon will lead a 12-strong team determined to win gold in New Delhi.

Australian and former AIS Head Coach Norma Plummer said the national team has a great blend of experience, youth and skills.

“We’ve got some experienced internationals and some coming in with just a few caps,” Plummer said.

“What pleases me most is the blend of the team and the way the players complement each other on the court.”

The Australians have won two of a possible three Commonwealth Games gold medals and are currently ranked number one in the world.

World No.2 New Zealand will be Australia’s biggest threat with the likes of Jamaica and England expected to be stronger than previous Games.

The Australian squad will head to Kuala Lumpur for a pre-Games training camp before departing for Delhi on September 27.

The Delhi 2010 netball competition will be staged at the Thyagaraj Sports Complex from October 4-14.
