Four current Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athletes have been selected in the Australian diving team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games taking place in Delhi, India, from 3 to 14 October.

Ethan Warren, Bree Cole, Sharleen Stratton and Olivia Wright have been named in the 12-strong Australian team, which also includes:

• James Connor (Victorian Institute of Sport)
• Grant Nel (Victorian Institute of Sport)
• Matthew Mitcham (NSW Institute of Sport, ex-AIS)
• Scott Robertson (NSW Institute of Sport, ex-AIS)
• Alexandra Croak (NSW Institute of Sport, ex-AIS)
• Jaele Patrick (Victorian Institute of Sport)
• Anabelle Smith (Victorian Institute of Sport)
• Melissa Wu (NSW Institute of Sport, ex-AIS).

Diving Australia High Performance Manager Graeme Rose said that despite a number of new faces in the team, it will be one of the best diving line ups to represent Australia in a Commonwealth Games campaign.

‘Australia will face tough opposition from Canada, England and Malaysia, however this team is one of our strongest teams to represent Australia at a Commonwealth Games,’ Rose said.

‘The team is a nice blend of experience and youth and we’re expecting to do quite well.’

Ten diving events will be held over the four-day competition from 10–13 October including 1-metre springboard, 3-metre springboard, platform, 3-metre synchronised and platform synchronised.

The AIS Diving program has played a key role in training and preparing Australian divers for elite competition at world championships and Olympic and Commonwealth Games, and in helping Australia to become one of the world’s top three diving nations.
