Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athlete Jessica Fox has claimed double gold in the women’s C1 and K1 events at the ICF canoe slalom junior world championships in Foix, France on 11 July.

The 16-year-old  won gold in the women’s C1 event recording a time of 137.51 seconds (including four seconds of penaltys) finishing ahead of China’s Teng Qianqian (137.85) in second place.

An hour after that result Fox was back on the water where she claimed her second gold in the women’s K1 event with a clean, fast run of 117.71 more than three seconds in front of Czechoslovakia’s Karolina Galuskova (121.05).

Fox was thrilled with clinching double gold.

‘In the K1 event I was already quite excited and pretty tired and thought I should just go for a run with no mistakes. It was my last run of the day and I gave everything to finish it off,’ Fox said.

‘Of course, I am very happy with the result, it was a great event and the crowd, atmosphere and support from the team was fantastic.’

Fox was competing against some of world’s best junior athletes aged between 16 to 18 years old, with 300 canoeists from 30 countries.

Fox will now set her sights on preparing for the Youth Olympic Games taking place in Singapore from 14 to 16 August.
