Australian Institute of Sport/Olympic Winter Institute of Australia freestyle mogul skier Dale Begg-Smith has continued his strong run in the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup, adding two silver medals to the two gold he won earlier this month.

The 24-year-old Begg-Smith claimed his third medal for 2010 on 16 January in Deer Valley, United States. He recorded a score of 26.21 points; only a fraction short of France’s Guilbaut Colas’s 26.80 points. Canadian Alexandre Bilodeau took the bronze with 25.95 points.

Begg-Smith won his second silver at the next World Cup event, held at Lake Placid, United States, on 21 January. He finished on 25.95 points, again just behind Guilbaut Colas, on 26.51 points. Sweden’s Jesper Björnlund took home the bronze with 25.44 points.

Olympic Winter Institute of Australia CEO Geoff Lipshut was delighted with Begg-Smith’s 21 January performance.

‘[He] skied very well today, excellent technically and in clear control with strong jumps, and he was fast.’

After winning seven out of the 12 World Cup events, Begg-Smith is now leading in overall standings, on 555 points. Björnlund is in second place on 412 points and Colas is in third on 370.
