Gomes, Letton and Nalder take out major AIS netball awards
Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) scholarship holders Chanel Gomes, April Letton and Simone Nalder have capped off outstanding years by taking out the three major awards at AIS netball awards ceremony.
Gomes, one of six AIS netballers named in this year’s Australian 19/U team, was named the Institute’s Most Valuable Player (Gweneth Benzie Award).
While, Letton took out the Anne Clarke Award with Simone Nalder named the Players Player of the Year.
Head coach of the AIS netball program, Sue Gaudion said 2010 had been another successful year for Institute.
‘The AIS netball program had six players named in the Australian 19/U team and we finished third in the Australian Netball League,’ Gaudion said.
‘Importantly the program continues to give players the experience necessary to compete with distinction at both the national and international level.’
‘I have no doubt that among the current AIS squad there are players who will progress to represent Australia at the senior level.’
‘Chanel had an outstanding year at both national and international level and is testament of the quality of player that we have coming through the ranks.’
‘She is a deserved winner of the Gweneth Benzie Award.’
