Guinea wins silver medal at the 2010 canoe slalom world championships
Australian Institute of Sport athletes Leanne Guinea and Jessica Fox have won silver and bronze respectively in the women’s C1 canoeing event, which was introduced at the 2010 ICF world championships, at Tacen Whitewater Course in Slovenia.
Guinea recorded the best total time of the Australians in the final run of the C1 event: 131.90 seconds with just two penalties, six second behind the event’s winner Slovakia’s Jana Dukatova. Fox finished in third place, recording a time of 134.18.
The women’s C1 canoe slalom was introduced as an official event for the first time at the 2010 world championships. It was a demonstration event at the 2009 world championships where Leanne Guinea won gold.
The AIS team-mates were thrilled with the results.
‘I am relieved, I didn't get off to a great start and needed a good run after that so I am happy it was enough for a medal,’ said Guinea.
‘I am happy to be on the podium, it is a tough course to race on and to avoid mistakes so anything you get at the end is a real bonus,’ Fox said.
