Institute archer wins first senior international tournament
Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) archer Taylor Worth has won his first senior international tournament with victory at the American National Championships in Hamilton, Ohio.
After qualifying in seventh position Worth shot strongly through his elimination matches, only dropping one set, before taking out USA Olympians Brady Ellison and Richard Johnston in the quarter and semi finals respectively.
In the final he defeated Vic Wunderle, the silver medallist from the Sydney Olympics shooting a (30,28,28,29) to Wunderle’s (27,29,27,28) to the take the Championships in four sets.
“Taylor is one of a couple of good prospects we have been developing at the AIS,” AIS and National Head Coach Simon Fairweather said.
“He’s been training well for the last year after overcoming a shoulder injury. While he is already shooting competitively, I’m really looking forward to seeing him continue developing as I think we will see more good results from him in the future.”
Worth will now join the rest of the Australian Commonwealth Games Archery Squad in Ogden Utah, for World Cup 3 next week, where the final Commonwealth Games Team will be decided.
Worth’s first senior international victory comes two months after he won his maiden national title defeating fellow AIS team-mate Ryan Tyack in the men’s individual recurve event.
