Institute athletes on track for Australian Athletics Championships

Australian Institute of Sport athletes Angeline Blackburn, Robert Crowther, Tristan Thomas are making final preparations for competition at the Go for 2&5 Australian Athletics Championships taking place in Perth from 16 to 18 April.

It will also feature a strong contingent of AIS athletes with a disability competing at the national championships, which includes Katherine Proudfoot (shot put and discus), Evan O’Hanlon and Scott Reardon (men’s 100 and 200 metre event) and Bradley Scott (men's 400 and 800-metre event) Michael Roeger (800 metre), Wade McMahon and Brendan Clewes (javelin).   

AIS athlete Tristan Thomas will be looking to defend his 2008 and 2009 national titles in the 400 metre hurdles. Thomas has been in good form leading up to the national championships, recording a personal best time of 48.68 seconds at Japan’s Osaka Grand Prix in May 2009.

His AIS team mate Robert Crowther will be aiming to reclaim his 2009 national title in the men’s long jump event. 

This event will also serve as selection trials for the Australian athletics team that will be competing at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India from 3 to 14 October.
