Kaarle McCulloch - Cycling

Kaarle McCullochSport has always been a part of Kaarle McCulloch’s life. At the age of 14, Kaarle was accepted into Endeavour Sports High School, in New South Wales, where she won the Junior Sportswoman of the Year award, three Australian titles in athletics and several regional and state medals.

At 17, after struggling with a lack of motivation in athletics but driven to represent Australia at an Olympic games, Kaarle gave a triathlon a go and won the race with very little training. Surprisingly, her strongest leg wasn’t the run but the bike.

Spurred on by her Mum and stepfather who were convinced she displayed the talent of a champion cyclist, Kaarle eventually gave track cycling a go. Since those first couple of laps riding around her local track, she has never looked back!

Kaarle says the reality of competing in her first Commonwealth Games has yet to sink in. The 22-year-old is one of 13 Australian Institute of Sport cyclist scholarship holders who will represent Australia in Delhi.

She is the current Australian national champion in four events: sprint, time trial, keirin and team sprint. She was also a member of the Australian sprint team that won gold at the 2010 world championships in Denmark.

Kaarle said she was looking forward to her debut Commonwealth Games and was confident about her medal chances in Delhi.
‘For me these upcoming Commonwealth Games are a step closer to my ultimate dream of representing Australia at an Olympic Games.’
