Murray claims silver at world university canoe sprint championship
Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athlete Murray Stewart has won silver in the men’s K1 500-metre event at the World University Canoe Sprint Championship in Poznań, Poland on 29 August.
Stewart finished in second place just behind Slovakia’s Peter Gelle. Stewart also claimed bronze in the men’s K1 1000-metre event and finished 4th place in the men’s K1 200-metre event.
In other strong results for AIS athletes, Jesse Phillips and Steve Bird claimed bronze in both the K2 200 and 500-metre events.
Phillips and Bird teamed up with Stewart and Ben Wood finishing 8th in the men’s K4 500-metre final.
Rebecca Keelan, a member of the Australian Sports Commission’s National Talent Identification and Development program, also finished 8th in the women’s K1 200-metre event.
