Spratt wins major European cycling race
Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) cyclist Amanda Spratt has claimed victory in the Grand Prix de Beauraing in Belgium on 16 May.
The 22-year-old Spratt took the lead in the final lap of the 88 kilometre race winning just ahead of Belgium’s Inge Roggeman.
Fellow AIS team-mate Kirsty Broun finished in third place.
It was Spratt’s first major win in two years after making a remarkable comeback from a hip and knee injury.
Spratt is currently training with the AIS Cycling program based at the European Training Centre in Varese, Italy and has been enjoying a great run of form this year.
In other strong results for AIS cyclists in lead up European events, Broun finished in second place in the Begijnendijk circuit race in Belgium on 14 May.
On the following day, Broun finished in second place again in the Helchteren cycling race also in Belgium.
