Spratt wins stage of major European race
Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athlete Amanda Spratt has collected her second victory in a month, winning the final criterium stage of the Ronde de Bourgogne in France.
The 22-year-old Spratt won the final stage, just one second ahead of France’s Emilie Blanquefort. AIS team-mate Carlee Taylor finished in third place.
Earlier in the tour AIS cyclist Lauren Kitchen finished second behind France’s Pascale Jeuland in the opening stage over 112 kilometres.
Jeuland’s team won the second stage team time trial.
Jeuland won the overall honours in the Ronde de Bourgogne, followed by Kitchen in second place.
In other strong results for AIS athletes, Kitchen claimed the Best Young Rider and Climber’s award and the AIS won the team’s classification.
The AIS athletes are currently training at the Cycling Australia / AIS High Performance base in Varese, Italy.
