AIS athletes Jared and Claire Tallent have walked to a gold and silver victory in the 20km race walk event overnight.

Jared won the 20km walk event ahead of Aussie Luke Adams while wife Claire at her first Commonwealth Games strode home behind England's Jo Jackson to take the silver in the women’s 20km event.

The talented couple train everyday in Canberra together and on Saturday they enjoyed the rare chance to compete together with both the men’s and women’s events running almost simultaneously on an up-and-back 2km circuit.

Jared crossed the line to turn and cheer his wife on for the final 15 minutes of her race.

‘I am thrilled for my wife," he said. ‘To see her win a medal is pretty special. We have been working hard for this all year, so I am thrilled for her.’
