Australia out to squash opposition

12 Oct 2010

Australia’s squash contingent have made their presence felt in the doubles and mixed doubles competitions and are set to challenge for medals over the coming days at the Siri Fort Sports Complex.

Following a tough singles campaign, that saw AIS athlete Kasey Brown as the only medallist (bronze), Australia has come out in force in the doubles and look set for a large medal haul.

In the men’s doubles, former AIS athletes David Palmer and Stewart Boswell have formed a strong combination and will play Scotland in the semi-finals tonight.

On the other side of the men’s draw AIS athlete Ryan Cuskelly and former AIS athlete Cameron Pilley will face England, who feature world number one singles player Nick Matthew and Adrian Grant,

Kasey Brown and fellow AIS athlete Donna Urquhart have also safely progressed to the semi-finals, where they face the English duo of Jenny Duncalf and Alison Waters, while Lisa Camillieri and Amelia Pittock will contest the second semi-final.

Australia is also well placed in the mixed doubles, with both Palmer and Urquhart, as well as Pilley and Brown still alive in the main draw.

Other AIS athletes in action on the third last day of competition include divers Sharleen Stratton, Olivia Wright and Ethan Warren, while Australia’s netball team, all who were former AIS athletes will contest their semi-final against England.
