Australian sailors claim silver at the 2010 Busan Cup International Match Race
Australian Institute of Sport sailors Katie Spithill (skipper) Nina Curtis, and Angela Farrell teaming up with Amanda Scrivenor and Maryann Thomas (NSW Institute of Sport) have claimed silver at the 2010 Busan Cup Women’s International Match Race in Korea on 31 October.
Claire Leroy’s French crew defeated Australia 3-wins-to-1 in the final to win the regatta. It was a strong performance by Australia winning rounds against Denmark and Great Britain in the quarter and semi final respectively.
‘The final against the French was close fought but we found ourselves two races down early and managed to come back with a solid win,’ said Angela Farrell.
‘All of the races had spit tacks because the breeze was so scattered on the course.'
‘Picking up the silver medal was a strong result and we’re happy that our new team had some great races and great crew work considering we had no training time together before arriving here in Korea.
‘We head back home to Sydney now for some more training with the whole team with a few national events, including the Australian Women’s Match Racing Championship, coming up soon.’
