All star Australian team set to battle the world
Two AIS squash players will join with Australian greats Sarah Fitz-Gerald and Rachel Grinham at the Women’s World Teams Championships in New Zealand from November 29-December 4.
Kasey Brown and Donna Urquhart, fresh off their successful medal haul at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, will combine with the two former world number one’s for the Australian team against quality line-ups from across the world.
Brown is having a breakthrough year on the WISPA international circuit and has risen to a career high world ranking of seventh, just two places behind Grinham.
In 2010 Brown has won the Dayton Open in Ohio back in February, while she has made the semi-finals on three other occasions.
At the Commonwealth Games, Brown won the women’s singles bronze medal, after going down in the semi-finals to world number 1 and eventual gold medallist, Malaysian Nicol David.
Urquhart is currently ranked 17th in the world has joined Brown on the winners list in 2010 after triumphing at the Buler Squash Challenge Cup in Hong Kong.
Meanwhile Fitz-Gerald makes her international comeback after retiring in 2003, and Grinham ends her Australian representative absence that commenced in 2006 after the Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
The Australian team will play three pool matches before the tournament enters the quarter-final stage on Thursday 2 December, with the final taking place on Saturday 4 December.
Australia last won the Women’s World Team Championships in 2004, while in 2006 and 2008, they finished in 10th and 6th respectively.
