Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) athlete Chloe Jamieson has earned selection in the Australian team for the 2011 IAAF World Youth Championships after winning the women’s under-18 400-metre hurdles at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships on 14 March.

Jamieson cruised to victory in Sydney with a time of 1:00.37 . New South Wales’s Sarah Carli finished in second place (1:00.86) followed by Queensland’s Tatum Shaw (1:01.11).

The 17-year-old Jamieson said she didn’t think she would have made the nationals without the support of the AIS. She has made steady progress since joining the AIS Track and Field program in January as a member of the Athletics Australia (AA) National High Performance Centre. Jamieson took up the 400-metre hurdles in late 2009 after beating the Australian 200-metre hurdle record for her age-group.

Jamieson trains under the guidance of AIS/AA Target Talent Program Coach Matt Beckenham. She is currently working to beat her personal best in preparation for the IAAF World Youth Championships, which run in Lille, France, from 6 to 10 July.
