The AIS Canoe Slalom program has celebrated its 10th birthday by reflecting on the program's history and its international success.

The program was introduced in January 2001 to capitalise on the legacy of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.

During the past ten years, the program and its athletes have brought Australia significant results, including two gold medals, three silver medals and three bronze medals at World Championships.

They’ve also won five gold, 13 silver and five bronze World Cup medals, three top ten results at the 2004 Athens Olympics, and a silver and bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Last year Australia had its best-ever overall performance at the Senior World Championships, with all three women’s kayaks reaching the final for the first time.

Jessica Fox achieved an unprecedented double by winning two individual gold medals at the Junior World Championships, followed by gold at the inaugural Youth Olympic Festival in Singapore.

A morning tea was held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra today where the Institute’s canoe slalom athletes showed off their skills in the AIS swimming pool.
