Institute joins forces with ACT Brumbies to enhance performance
The ACT Brumbies rugby union club has entered into a commercial agreement with Australian Institute of Sport, to gain access to AIS training and recovery facilities, resources, coaching and sports science expertise, which will be used for maximising their performance in preparation for opening round of the Super 15 competition.
The partnership will also foster collaboration and information sharing between the two organisations in areas of high performance sport.
Under the agreement, the AIS will support the training and development of the ACT Brumbies by sharing high-quality training facilities, specialist coaching and sports science expertise in the lead up to and during the Super 15 competition.
The Brumbies will also use a range of specialist sports science expertise through AIS nutrition, strength and conditioning and recovery areas.
In return, the ACT Brumbies will participate in testing and development sessions, which contribute to AIS scientific research and development.
Brumbies head coach Jake White and CEO Andrew Fagan were supportive and instrumental in establishing the agreement .
AIS Strength and Conditioning Coach Julian Jones said the partnership will foster collaboration and information sharing between the two organisations to maximise the performance of the Brumbies players.
‘The Brumbies will benefit from leading coaching and sports science knowledge and expertise provided by the AIS.’
‘We can also learn from a direct involvement with the training and development of the Brumbies playing roster, which is going through a re-building phase. “
Brumbie’s Athletics Performance Director, Dean Benton, who has spent two and a half years at the AIS in coaching role within AIS Strength and Conditioning and the Track and Field programs welcomed the partnership,.
While working at the AIS, I was impressed by the Institute’s world-class facilities, professional staff and sports science expertise.
Dean’s current role involves coordinating all athletic development, sport medicine, sport science, nutrition, rehabilitation and recovery programs.
‘As soon as I took on the Brumbies role, I recognised that the AIS could play a significant part in servicing the training needs and enhancing the performance of the Brumbies.’
‘Getting access to AIS facilities, expertise and services that have underpinned Australia’s success in world sport over the last 20 years is tremendous.
‘There has always been a friendly and healthy informal relationship between staff
at the two organisations.
‘It made sense to enter an agreement with the AIS to ensure something formal and lasting was put in place.’
He also said there was also potential for the Brumbies collaborating on research projects with the AIS.
Benton said the AIS, based in Bruce is strategically located within close proximity to the Brumbies headquarters.’
The Brumbies will make preparations at the AIS before and after home games at Canberra Stadium.
