AIS swimmers bound for London
Six members of the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) swim program have been selected to represent Australia at the London Games.
Angie Bainbridge (4x200m freestyle), Alicia Coutts (100m fly, 200m IM and 4x100m freestyle), Tomasso D’Orsogna (4x100m freestyle), Sally Foster (200m breastroke), Belinda Hocking (100m and 200m backstroke) and James Roberts (100m freestyle and 4x100m freestyle) are among the 44 athletes who will represent Australia in London.
Australian Head Coach Leigh Nugent said he was impressed with the strength of the Team and the positive racing at the Olympic selection trial meet that doubled as the Olympic Trials.
'We’ve seen some great swimming this week and depth in many events,' Nugent said.
'Our relay strength looks very good like it was in Beijing – if not better, and our sprinters have led the way in terms of world rankings.'
'The racing for individual swims in London has raised the bar here at our Trials and now the job is to do everything possible to best prepare for the Games in July.'
