Milestone for club development

Club development milestone
01 Feb 2008

This year will mark a significant milestone for the Australian Sports Commission’s Club Development Network in reaching 10,000 registered members.

The Australian Sports Commission recognises that sporting clubs and their members are vital to the strength and growth of the Australian sporting system.

Local sporting clubs not only encourage more people to remain physically active but they also provide a great social outlet for members.

Thousands of volunteers—coaches, officials and administrators—generously donate their time and effort to help boost club life.

Driven by continuous improvement, the network aims to assist clubs across Australia to identify ways in which they can develop the best possible services to members.

The Club Development Network provides a free web-based resource which supports the management and development of sporting clubs in key areas of leadership, planning, people, and members.

This includes an A-Z of club management with advice on areas as diverse as how to amend a constitution, developing strategic plans, and how to run fundraising and social events.

Changing demands in work and play mean that Australian sporting clubs must adapt to the times in order to survive and thrive.

This involves adopting creative strategies to attract and retain new members and to generate revenue streams.

The Australian Government is committed to supporting clubs at the local, community level because well-managed and effective community sporting clubs are vital to providing quality sporting opportunities for all Australians
