From being an interesting distraction just ten years ago, the internet has moved to being an integral and essential part of modern communication and commerce. 

The rapid introduction of high speed broad band networks has allowed for the introduction of new internet platforms including high speed digital video, audio and podcasting.

As Chairman of the Australian Sports Commission I am delighted to welcome you to the revamped and updated Commission website.  On these pages, the general public and the sporting community have easy access to an amazing volume of rich content which is informative, educational and entertaining. 

As you will discover, the Australian Sports Commission (including the Australian Institute of Sport) has a vast repository of sporting knowledge that is probably unmatched anywhere in the world.

Developments in new online media are transforming the way that we stay informed and source news about Australian sport.  The new-look web site will offer a host of new features including improved navigation and search engines, user-friendly contact forms, content rich with topical news stories, facts, figures and images about Australian sport, Australian Institute of Sport athlete profiles and interviews, podcasting, RSS feeds, tag clouds about key issues in Australian sport and much more. 

It is a simple fact that more and more people, from all generations–but particularly the young – are using the internet as their primary source for research, information gathering, education and entertainment.  It is pleasing that the Australian Sports Commission is at the forefront in Government use of new web technology.
