National workshop encourages collaboration in coaching and officiating
Representatives from national, state and territory sporting organisations and governments recently came together at the annual Coaching and Officiating Directors Workshop to discuss how a quality national coaching and officiating system can drive Australian sport forward.
The two-day workshop, which took place on 26 and 27 November at the Novotel Sydney Olympic Park hotel, was organised by the Sports Coach and Official section of the Australian Sports Commission (ASC).
ASC CEO Matt Miller opened the workshop stressing the importance of coaching and officiating to the future of sport and the need to invest in it accordingly.
Keynote speakers included Tennis Australia’s Craig Tiley, who provided a great insight into Tennis Australia’s work to build a system and culture that supports whole of sport development and the critical role that people play in making this happen. A number of sports also offered models for good practice in coaching and officiating development and management. Triple Olympic gold medallist Drew Ginn provided an entertaining presentation at dinner.
Delegates participated in interactive and practical sessions on accreditation, mentoring, presenting, technology, pathway development and inclusive practices, and had the opportunity to share their views and ideas with ASC staff and representatives of other sports.
