The Australian Sports Commission has developed an innovative online resource to assist people from all cultures to get involved in sport.

The All Cultures online resource includes case studies, operational templates, guidelines and tools, plus fantastic videos about people overcoming major adversity — all with the aim of making sport more inclusive, to motivate more individuals to get active.

All Cultures is designed to provide information to coaches, trainers and volunteers delivering sport and recreation programs for people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

The resource contains useful information for engaging culturally and linguistically diverse communities in sport, including:

  • how to involve women, girls and young people
  • communication tips for coaches and teachers
  • how to promote multicultural programs
  • videos, including interviews with sporting teams and athletes about why they play sport and discussing barriers and issues they face
  • tools to help schools and clubs connect with their communities, including templates for download
  • contacts for multicultural and sporting organisations.
All Cultures ambassador Harry O’Brien of Collingwood Football Club is the first Brazilian-born player in the Australian Football League. Harry is deeply committed and passionate about building greater understanding and harmony between cultures, and believes playing sport can bring people from different backgrounds together and keep them united.

Harry’s story, and those of other ambassadors, can also be found in the All Cultures resource.
