Quick and healthy meals for active families
Cooking healthy and nutritious meals on a limited budget and to a tight schedule can be a major challenge for busy, active families. That’s why the Australian Institute Sport (AIS) and Nestlé worked together to produce Survival for the Active Family.
Survival for the Active Family is the latest in the popular Survival cookbook series — one of the highly successful products of the partnership between the AIS and Nestlé, which was established in 1999 to develop projects in the areas of education and nutrition.
What makes the Survival series so successful is that it makes cooking healthy and nutritious meals easy for everyone, and the latest cookbook is no exception: Survival for the Active Family provides more than 100 quick and simple recipes — for breakfast, lunch, dinner and healthy snacks — which cater for the nutritional needs of everyone in an active family.
But Survival for the Active Family is much more than just a cookbook. It offers dozens of tips for the whole family on how to combine a healthy, nutritious diet with regular physical exercise. Each recipe also includes a detailed nutritional analysis of energy, fat, protein, carbohydrate and fibre content per serve.
The brand new Survival cookbook was written by the AIS Sports Nutrition team — experts in meeting the dietary needs of Australia’s elite athletes — specially for busy parents who need to take care of the nutritional needs of their active families.
Head of AIS Sports Nutrition, Dr Louise Burke, said that Survival for the Active Family is focused squarely on helping active families: ‘It’s all about the importance of combining activity and nutrition to give your family a healthy life’.
Survival for the Active Family also features favourite recipes from famous past and present AIS athletes Petria Thomas, Jack Bobridge, Heath Francis, Tristan Thomas, Adam Pine, Amy Steele, Laura Scherian and Ken Wallace.
