The Australian Baseball Federation has launched a national Aussie T-Ball program to encourage more kids to play baseball.

The modified version of baseball is now being played in baseball clubs, schools and Active After-school Communities (AASC) across Australia, providing a vital new junior entry point for the sport.

Member for Canberra, Gai Brodtmann, congratulated the Federation for its initiative at the Canberra launch of the program in September.

‘It’s very pleasing to see the Baseball Federation use the $150 000 in additional participation funding from the Australian Government to develop the Aussie T-Ball program,’ Ms Brodtmann said.

‘Aussie T- Ball encourages young kids to have a go without the pressure of serious competition and provides another fantastic option in the Active After-School Communities (AASC) program.

‘The AASC program provides about 3 270 schools and out-of-hours school care centres with sport and physical activities thanks to the support of $44 million from the Australian Government.

‘We want to get kids out of the lounge room and on to our sporting fields to reduce rates of obesity and increase participation in sport.’

The Australian Government provides more than $1.6 million funding each year to the Australian Baseball Federation.
