Play by the Rules — promoting safe, fair and inclusive sport
Play by the Rules has recently been given fresh life with a national promotion campaign and increased online resources. Almost a decade old, it’s a unique partnership between the Australian Sports Commission, all state/territory departments of sport and recreation, plus anti-discrimination agencies throughout the country.
Targeting sports and recreation clubs, administrators, officials, coaches, players and spectators, it aims to keep sport safe, fair and inclusive.
The program will be promoted nationally for the next two months via a community service announcement featuring some of Australia’s most well-known sports stars. Athletes such as Brett Emerton (Socceroos), Saia Faingaa (Rugby Union), Sally Fitzgibbons (Surfing), Usman Khawaja (Australian and NSW Cricket), Ellyse Perry (Women's cricket/football), Brad Sewell (AFL) and Johnathan Thurston (NRL) have lent their generous support.
‘It’s great to have the enthusiastic support of these national sporting role models,’ said Paul Oliver, National Manager of the program. ‘Representing a range of sports and cultural backgrounds, their involvement reinforces our goal of addressing negative issues in sport and ensuring that all participants feel included and can enjoy a safe environment.’
The Play by the Rules website provides a range of free information, resources, policies and online training for grassroots sporting and recreation clubs and organisations.
