ASC statement on the resignation of Swimming Australia President
03 Jun 2013
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is aware of the allegations of inappropriate behaviour made against the former President of Swimming Australia Mr Barclay Nettlefold.
Swimming Australia has fully briefed the ASC on the investigation process that has been initiated in accordance with its Member Protection Policy.
It is important that members and the public alike can have faith in the leadership of a sport and know that inappropriate behaviour is unacceptable whether it be from an athlete, coach, management or board member.
Mr Nettlefold's resignation as President is commended as being in the best long-term interest of the sport.
Under Mr Nettlefold's Presidency, Swimming Australia has made significant progress in addressing a number of the issues identified for the sport in the wake of the London Olympics.
The ASC will continue to work in partnership with Swimming in governance and high performance to ensure the sport succeeds.
